HB334 / Crossfiled as SB256 (2010)Requiring the State Department of Education to adopt regulations that require all public school buildings newly constructed or completely renovated and occupied after January 1, 2013, to include a gymnasium and support spaces for physical education instruction and to adopt guidelines for facilities for physical education programs.

| Why? | This stance was approved by the General Assembly on 2/26/10 -This is a reasonable and responsible mandate -The vast majority of schools in Maryland have gymnasiumss already, it is unfair to students at those who do not -This bill would not mandate any costly retrofitting -Schools need to lead by example when it comes to health and fitness education. Funds, time, and effort must be allotted to demonstrate the importance of physical fitness and to make worthwhile the allotted time for physical education |
