MASC Position: Against
Reasons for the MASC Position:
This stance was approved by the General Assembly on 2/26/10 This is an unfunded mandate with absolutely no detail. It would force the state board of education to create a curriculum for a course in something that many students do not need instruction in. It would make a brand new course a graduation requirement for students upon implementation, which is very dangerous as it would be untested. The requirement would take yet another opportunity away from students to take advanced coursed in subjects that interest them. This is a drastic and unnecessary intervention to a system that is already working very well.
